Higgins was born Dec. 9, 1929, in Clovis, Calif., to Kenneth and Adalia (McKenzie) Higgins.
He served in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Warrick from 1948 until 1952, during the Korean conflict. After his marriage he moved with his first wife to Fairfield in 1967 where they raised their family.
Higgins is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen (Lawrie) Higgins; and children, Stacey Cohane (Jack) of Easton, Kurt Higgins (Erin) of Easton, Md., Maria Connors (Sean) of Madison, Joleen Bull (Danny) of Trumbull; stepchildren, Christopher Cooney (Mara) of Lisle, Ill., Brendan Cooney (Denise) of Elmhurst, Ill., and Sara Schimmel (Michael) of Downers Grove, Ill.; 25 grandchildren; and sisters, Melba DiBuduo and Alma Jean Bray of Calif. He was predeceased by his parents; first wife, Janice (Nicholson) Higgins; and daughter, Erin Higgins.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Oct. 3 at 11 a.m. in St. George Catholic Church, 33 Whitfield St., Guilford.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405 in memory of Kenneth Higgins.
