FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Kenneth A. Maloney of Fairfield died Saturday, Aug. 23. He was 92.
Maloney was born in Bridgeport, he enlisted in the Air Force in 1942, joining the helicopter group first at Sikorsky aircraft and then in the South Pacific. Upon his return, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Bridgeport and began his professional career in public relations at the consulting firm of Howard H. Comstock. Following that he held numerous public relations and communications positions at General Electric prior to starting his own public relations firm in 1961.
He was a lifelong supporter and leader of the Barnum Festival. He served as its president in 1958, its ringmaster in 1960, and has been a board member ever since. He was a supporter of many other community service organizations, including the United Way, Lions Club and Chamber of Commerce. He worked for many other organizations including Saint Vincent's Hospital and the Eastern Ski Writers Association.
Maloney is survived by his wife, Katherine Jean Maloney; children, Hope Maloney of Port Townsend, Wash., Lynne Maloney (Jim) of Scituate, Mass., Leslie Maloney (Mark) of Andover, Mass., Kenneth Maloney Jr. (Sara) of Brookline, Mass., and Kristen Maloney of Andover, Mass.; nine grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Ronald J. Maloney.
Calling hours are Thursday, Aug. 28 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main St. and Gorham Place, Trumbull. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29 at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road, Fairfield with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull.
