Kenneth Randall Myers, 72, Of Fairfield, Retired U.S. Navy Commander

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Kenneth Randall Myers of Fairfield died Monday, July 21. He was 72.

Myers was born to C. Kenneth and Elizabeth Hinds- Wright Myers and raised in Baltimore. He resided in numerous locations throughout his Naval and defense contractor careers, including Carmel, Calif.; Moorestown, N.J.; Roslyn Heights, N.Y.; and Washington, D.C. In more recent years, he and his wife, Anita, lived in St. Augustine, Fla., and Fairfield. He was a retired U.S. Navy commander.

After attending North Carolina State University for two years, he was accepted into the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md., and graduated with the Class of 1965. During his subsequent 20 years of duty, he served aboard the Aegis class guided-missile cruiser USS Ticonderoga, the USS Norton Sound and USS Braine. He earned two master's degrees from the Naval Postgraduate School in the areas of electrical engineering and business administration. Upon his retirement from the Navy, he began a second career in the defense industry and was employed by Sperry/Unisys Corp. and Boeing Corp.

Myers is survived by his wife, Anita; children, Kenneth Gross, of Fishkill, N.Y., Karen Greenwood, (James), of Fairfield, Benjamin Gross (Dr. Cherry Libramonte), of New York City, Rex Myers, Tyler Myers (Lissa), of New Jersey; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Sara Abramson, of New York and Berta Lewin, of Illinois; brother-in-law, Jerry Plum, of Alabama; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and sister, Constance Plum.

Calling hours are Saturday, July 26, from 11 a.m. until the funeral service at 12:30 p.m. in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, Fairfield Center. Mother Dawn Stegelmann, of Trinity Church of Southport will officiate. Military honors will be observed, and his interment will be private.
