Lorraine Burnett, 88, Of Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Lorraine Schoen, of Fairfield, died Monday, Oct. 12. She was 88.

She is survived by husband, John F. Burnett Jr.

Schoen was bornFeb. 24, 1927, in Danbury and spent her entire youth in Danbury. Her father was George J. Schoen, the first police chief in Danbury's history, and her mother was Helena McCarthy. She graduated from Danbury High School in 1944, where she was a cheerleader and basketball player.

Schoen had two brothers and a sister who predeceased her.

At Danbury High School, she met her future husband, "Jack." Following high school, she received a degree as a dental hygienist. She married her high school sweetheart June 26, 1952, and shortly thereafter moved to Fairfield, where they resided for the next four decades and raised their three sons.

They were married 57 years until he died in 2009.

Following their retirement, they moved to Narragansett, R.I., where they spent many enjoyable days walking along the rugged New England coastline they both dearly loved. A sports enthusiast, she especially enjoyed football, and also was an accomplished knitter, specializing in Irish knit sweaters.

Schoen is survived by three sons, Gregg Burnett, of Fairfield, John Burnett, of Narragansett, R.I., and Jeff Burnett, of Wakefield, R.I., and six grandchildren, Timothy, John, Jane, Sarah, Casey and Patrick.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter's Church on Main Street in Danbury. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery in Danbury.
