Martha Furlong, 96, Of Fairfield, Nurse

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Martha Hull Furlong of Fairfield died Nov. 26. She was 96.

Furlong was the daughter of Charles and Wilhemina Hull of Southport, a descendant of one of the founding families of Fairfield.

For 52 years she worked as a nurse in the Westport and Fairfield areas. She was a lifelong member of Southport Congregational Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years, and the Eastern Star-Lafayette Chapter. She was a volunteer at the former Southport Manor as well as the West Haven Veterans Hospital.

Furlong is survived by her son, O. Christian Furlong (Phyllis) of Southport; daughter, Catherine Raynor of Fairfield; two grandsons; and many nieces and nephews in the New England area. She was predeceased by her husband, Orval C. Furlong; and grandson, Christian Furlong.

Burial arrangements are private.
