Martin Monahan, 89, Of Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Martin Monahan, of Fairfield, died Saturday, Feb. 14. He was 89.

Monahan was born in Lissycasey, County Clare, Ireland, emigrating to Bridgeport in 1950.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1951-53 during the Korean War and went on to marry Mary Troy in 1959, raising their children in Fairfield.

Monahan was a member of the Gaelic American Club, Holy Family Parish and the Fairfield Senior Center..

He is survived by his children, Dr. Brian Monahan (and wife Mary) of Kensington, Md., Kathleen Ostenby (and husband Peter) of St. Paul, Minn., Dr. Kevin Monahan of Boston and Ann Cimmino (and husband Richard) of Fairfield; his grandchildren, Aileen, Erin, Claire, Kathleen, Connor, Caitlin, Megan, Shannon, Emily, Ryan, Katie and Andrew; his sister, Ann Monk of Fairfield; his brother-in-law, Denis Troy (and wife Barbara) of Milford; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife; sister Mary Kate Griffin; and brothers Thomas, Patrick, Timothy, Vincent and Christopher.

Visiting hours will be Sunday, Feb. 22, from 3-6 p.m. at the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 S. Benson Road, Fairfield.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Feb. 23, at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church in Fairfield. Interment with military honors will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery.
