Mary Barbara Kokorda, Of Fairfield, 97

FAIRFIELD, CONN. -- Mary Barbara Kokorda, 97, died Friday, May 22, 2015.

She was born March 4, 1918, in Bridgeport, to George and Mary Antolin Ferencsak. She passed away in Fairfield in the home she built with her husband and where she lived since 1950.

She is survived by her beloved only son, Andrew Kokorda Jr., and his wife, Linda, of Fairfield. She also is survived by four grandsons, and four great-granddaughters.

Her husband, Andrew Kokorda Sr., died in 1995 after 59 years of marriage. She also was predeceased by a brother, Frank Ferencsak.

Kokorda was a lifelong member of Holy Cross church in Fairfield. She was a dedicated and deeply religious Roman Catholic who prayed daily and frequently attended daily Mass well into her retirement.

She was a member of the Ladies Guild and the Christian Mothers Society at Holy Cross. She also was a past member of the Columbiettes, and the past Grand Sultana of the El Poder Caravan of the Order of the Alhambra. Mary and her husband enjoyed volunteering for Holy Cross and especially for the Alhambra, taking special needs children on trips and caring for them.

Kokorda attended Bassick High School. She worked for Mitchell Brothers in Bridgeport as an inspector. Later she worked for Industrial Laundry, Remington Shaver and finally for Bridgeport Molded Products, from where she retired in 1982.

She enjoyed cooking, being at home, and watching sports on television, especially the New York Yankees and the New England Patriots. She never missed a game.

Funeral services will be at 10:15 a.m., Wednesday, in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, Fairfield Center and at 11 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, 750 Tahmore Drive, Fairfield. Burial will follow in Lawncroft Cemetery.
