Mary Elizabeth Szabo Wargo, 92, Of Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Fairfield resident Mary Elizabeth Szabo Wargo, a former Bridgeport resident, died Monday, March 4. She was 92.

Szabo Wargo was born in Bridgeport on June 7, 1920. The daughter of Victor and Sophie Nemeth Szabo, she was a Bridgeport City resident before moving to Fairfield a year ago. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Stephen's Church of Bridgeport and later of St. Emery's Church, where she was very active in the Ladies Guild, the Altar Society and the St. Emery's seniors group. Szabo Wargo was a willing volunteer for all church functions.

Szabo Wargo is survived by her sons James Wargo and Geoffrey Wargo (Patricia), all of Fairfield; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, James; brother Victor Sabo and sisters Angie Csom, Jennie Horvath and Margaret Rohaly.

Calling hours are Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services, at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road., Fairfield, and at 11 a.m. in St. Emery's Church, 838 Kings Highway, Fairfield, with burial to follow in Mt. Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, c/o 322 Eighth Ave., 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
