Mary Hajas, 98, Ran Fairfield Beach Concessions

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Mary D. Hajas of Fairfield died Monday, Sept. 3, at Carolton Convalescent Hospital. She was 98. 

Born in New Jersey, Hajas was a lifelong area resident. She and her late husband, Julius, owned and operated concession stands at Fairfield, Sasco and Southport beaches for many years. One of the original parishioners of Holy Family Church, she was a member of the Ladies Guild.

Hajas is survived by two children, Robert (Barbara) Hajas, of Vero Beach, Fla., and Carol (Richard F.) Jacobson, of Fairfield; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Julius Hajas; a daughter, Donna Cornwall; and a grandson, David J. Felner. 

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Family Church in Fairfield. Burial will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery in Fairfield. Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Spear-Miller Funeral Home in Fairfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Church, 700 Old Stratfield Road, Fairfield, CT 06825.
