Mary Louise Quinn, 97, Of Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Mary Louise Quinn of Fairfield died Saturday, Jan. 11 at Bridgeport Hospital. She was 97.

Quinn was born in New York City, to George and Harriet Rafferty but moved to Connecticut at an early age and lived most of her life in Fairfield. She graduated summa cum laude from Marymount College in Tarrytown, N.Y., and earned her Masters and Sixth Year Degree from Fairfield University. She was also awarded summer fellowships to Syracuse University and Harvard. As an educator she started her career as a high school English and Latin teacher. She was an assistant principal at Bassick High School in Bridgeport and also at Brien McMahon in Norwalk. She was an assistant superintendent of the Bridgeport School System. She spent the last 20 years in education as a guidance counselor at Staples High School in Westport.

She was a lay reader at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Fairfield, served on the board of the Mercy Learning Center and the Meadows Condominium Association. She was a past officer in the Catholic Council of Women.

Quinn is survived by her stepdaughters, Gail Quinn and Marybeth Quinn; two granddaughters; a great-granddaughter; many cousins; and friends. She was predeceased by her parents; and husband, H. Peter Quinn.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15 meeting directly at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Fairfield. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford.
