Mary Ostrowski, 97, Lifelong Fairfield Resident

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Mary Helen Ostrowski, a lifelong Fairfield resident, died Sept. 7. She was 97. 

Ostrowski was born March 22, 1915 in Fairfield to Michael and Mary Carneski. She worked as a landing gear specialist for Chance Vought Corsair in Stratford during World War II.

She won several awards in Bunka Art competitions and her expertise with the art could be viewed throughout her home. Her family said that it was rare to see her without a book, especially an Agatha Christie novel. She was married to Theodore Ostrowski, who predeceased her.  

Ostrowski is survived by three children, Carol (Raymond) Avery, James (Patricia) Ostrowski and Theodore (Colette) Ostrowski; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Rebecca DiPanni; and two brothers, John and Frank Carneski.  

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Tuesday at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Fairfield. Burial will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield. Spear-Miller Funeral Home handled arrangements.
