Nat Montalbano, 91, WWII Veteran, Formerly of Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Nat J. Montalbano formerly of Fairfield died Dec. 1. He was 91. Born Sept. 24, 1921, in Sciacca, Italy, Montalbano lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., and Queens, N.Y., before moving to Fairfield in 1972. He graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School and served in the Army in England during World War II.

He attended Ursinus College and New York University on the G.I. Bill. Montalbano spent most of his career as director of purchasing for Ragu Foods at Chesebrough-Ponds/Unilever.

He lived at Spring Meadows in Trumbull for the last 11 years. He enjoyed family gatherings, traveling, rooting for the New York Giants and New York Mets, and going to the casino with friends.

Montalbano is survived by four children, John (Valerie) Montalbano, of Rocky Hill, Conn., JoAnne (Robert) Weiss, of Trumbull, Nick (Marie) Montalbano, of Warwick, R.I., and Mary (Jon) Heller, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nephews and nieces.

He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Rose Alonzo Montalbano; a daughter, Marianne; his parents, John and Josephine DeSaro Montalbano; and six siblings, Joe, Josephine, Anna, Sam, Lucy and Mike.

Visitation is from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Spear-Miller Funeral Home in Fairfield. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Stephen's Church in Trumbull. Burial will follow at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Board of Education Services for the Blind or the Fresh Air Fund.
