Markoja was born in Fairfield, daughter of Alexander and Elizabeth Harkai Rakoczy. She was a lifelong area resident and was a graduate of Bassick High School class of 1939.
Markoja is survived by her children, Steve Markoja (Rosemary) of Meriden, Robert Markoja (Kathleen) of Cheshire, Elizabeth Anne Markoja, of Wilmington, N.C., Marianne Sanford (David) of Stratford; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; brother, Frank Rakoczy of Milford; brothers in-law, Louis Markoya (Rose) of Fairfield and Joseph Markoya of Sarasota, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Steven Markoja; sisters, Mary Antal, Elizabeth Lamourreux and Rose Fancher; and brother, Alexander Rakoczy.
Calling hours are Friday, Aug. 9 from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 10 at 9:15 a.m. in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road in the Fairfield Center and 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church, Fairfield. Her interment will follow at Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield.
