Philip Sara, 85, Of Fairfield, Retired Sturm Ruger Fire Arms Employee

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Philip Sara of Fairfield died Thursday, April 3. He was 85.

Sara was born in Bridgeport, he was the son of Henry and Katherine Martin Sara. A graduate of Roger Ludlowe High School, class of 1947, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a toolmaker for Sturm Ruger Fire Arms for 40 years prior to his retirement.

He was a member of the VFW Post 74, American Legion Post 9427, both of Fairfield and Port Five Naval Veterans in Black Rock. He served as a volunteer for many years at the West Haven VA Hospital, the committee for the Fairfield Memorial Day Parade, and for the Norwalk Maritime Aquarium.

Sara is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Gary Sara of Darien, Janet Marotto (Joseph) of Stratford and Laura Dwinells (Willard) of Trumbull; five grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Ann Boyle (David) of Shelton, Margaret Rosenthal (Albert) of Shelton and Rose Trembeczki of Monroe; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Ormand Sara; sister, Doris Vereb; and brothers-in-law, Joseph and Frank Trembeczki.

Calling hours are Tuesday, April 8 from 4 to 8p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 9 at 9 a.m. in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road in Fairfield Center and at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church, Fairfield. Burial will follow with full military honors in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
