Caggiano was born Dec. 10, 1940, in Massachusetts, to Patrick and Fernande Begin. She grew up in Baldwinville, Mass., and graduated from Narragansett Regional High School as valedictorian of the class of 1958. She attended the University of Bridgeport, where she earned Bachelors and Masters Degrees in French and education. She then began a career as a teacher of foreign languages and later taught English as a second language, first at English Language Services (ELS) in Bridgeport and New Haven and for the past 20 years at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield.
Caggiano is survived by her husband, James of Trumbull; daughter, Laura J. Patterson of Trumbull; son, Jay Caggiano (Andrea) of Simsbury; sister, Lorraine LeRoy; brother, Gerald Begin (Kathleen); sister-in-law, Deena Begin; brother, Robert (Bernice); brother-in-law, John (Tina) Caggiano; two grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews; and other relatives. She was predeceased in death by her parents; father-in-law, Filomeno Caggiano; mother-in-law, Maria Caggiano; brother, Norman Begin; and brother-in-law, Arlen LeRoy.
A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Jan. 2, 2014 at Christ the King Church in Trumbull. At the request of the family, the interment at Gate of Heaven cemetery will be private.
