Rhonda Eady, Fairfield Resident, 75

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Rhoda A. Eady, a Fairfield resident, died on Wednesday, Feb. 25. She was 75.

She was born in Bridgeport on Feb. 24, 1940, to ]James and Elizabeth Eady.

Eady graduated from Bassick High School in 1959 and Bullard Havens School of Barbering in 1960.

Finding her calling as early as 9 years old and learning from her mother, she practiced cutting hair on her four brothers and by age 12 had a following of neighborhood clients who paid her to cut their hair. 

Not only was she the first and only African-American female to own and operate a barbershop in Bridgeport but she also had the distinction of being the personal barber to former heavyweight boxing champion Floyd Patterson.

Eady remained committed to her passion and profession of barbering for 55 years.

Friends can join family for a Memorial Service for Eady on Saturday, at 9 a.m, at Shiloh Baptist Church, 477 Broad St., Bridgeport.

She was survived by two brothers James Eady of Stratford; Eugene Eady of Bridgeport; one sister, Larstein Eady of Bridgeport; her friend Corey Parker and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Thomas and Robert Eady and one sister, Elizabeth Eady McKnight.
