Robert Butzko, 99, Of Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Robert L. Butzko, of Fairfield, died Tuesday, March 17, at The Village at Mariners Point retirement home. He was 99.

Butzko lived in Fairfield and Bridgeport his entire life. He graduated from New York University with an engineering degree. During World War II, he helped develop a radar system that was used in the B-29 Super Fortress.

After his time in the military, he became an engineer and owner of Thermtrol Corp., eventually holding numerous patents in plastic molding and authoring “Plastic Sheet Forming” in 1958.

Upon Butzko's retirement, he became active in the horse racing community and funded projects through the Catholic Church to improve the education and quality of life in underserved areas of India.

He was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie (nee Bourne). He is survived by George Dow of South Windsor and Michael C. Cabassa of Mountain Lakes, N.J.; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Saturday, March 21, from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., at the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, Fairfield Center. Funeral services will follow.

Interment will be at Mountain Grove Cemetery.
