Robert was born and raised in Fairfield, the son of Anthony and Mary (Ventrillio) Bennett. He was a retired firefighter/EMT in Fairfield. His arrival on the fire truck as the town's "Santa" certainly was a highlight of his career. Active in sports all of his life, Robert coached baseball from Little League through American Legion, pee wee basketball at Wakeman's and played in many softball leagues in Fairfield. He served on the Human Services Commission in Fairfield for 10 years, helping seniors and watching a new senior housing development come to fruition. Make-A-Wish was his favorite charity and he worked on the fundraiser golf tournament at H. Smith Richardson Golf Course in Fairfield for 20 years. After taking up golf himself, he also became the "breakfast chef" at Smith, working with four different concessionaires during 30 years.

Preceded in death by both his parents, Robert is survived by his sons, Robert T. Bennett (Susan Andracchi); Michael J. Bennett (Albina); and four grandchildren. He also is survived by his sister and brother-in-law; two nephews; and many cousins and great nieces and nephews. Robert requested that calling hours be omitted. A memorial service celebrating his life will be announced at a later date. Anyone wishing to donate in his honor can send it to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 126 Monroe Turnpike, Trumbull, Conn. 06611. The Spear-Miller Funeral Home in Fairfield is in charge of arrangements. To leave an online message please visit www.SpearMillerFuneralHome.com.
