Robert Johnston, 74, Formerly Of Fairfield, Owned Fairfield Transmission

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Robert Johnston of Clearwater, and longtime resident of Fairfield, Conn., died Wednesday, Nov. 12. He was 74.

Johnston was born in Fairfield, to George Johnston and Marie Collins Johnston. Having attended both Andrew Warde and Fairfield Prep, he served in the United States Air Force. He returned home to Fairfield to open his business, Fairfield Transmission, in 1961, and it is still in operation today. He retired several years ago and has spent most of that time at his home in Clearwater. He was a member of the Belleview Biltmore Golf Club in Belleair, and was a past member of The Patterson Club & Black Rock Yacht Club. He was also a past member of the Fairfield Elks, the Fairfield Rotary Club and volunteered as a wish grantor for The Make A Wish FoundationAdvertisement

Johnston is survived by his wife, Kathy; son, Scott (Linda); daughters, Holly Cloutier, Brenda (Ryon) Ganser and Kelle (Bill) Palka; 11 grandchildren; brothers Charles (friend, Sandy King) of Juno, and Jerry (Janice) of Clearwater; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and sister-in-law, Loretta Johnston of Hingham Mass.

Calling hours are Friday, Nov. 14 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, November 15 at 11:30 a.m. meeting directly at St. Luke Church, 84 Long Lots Road, Westport. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Fairfield.
