Ruth Anderson, 87, Fairfield Public Works Bookkeeper

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Ruth E. Anderson, a lifelong Fairfield resident, died Jan. 10 at Bridgeport Hospital. She was 87.

The daughter of Edward and Sarah Anderson, she was born Dec. 23, 1925. Anderson worked as a bookkeeper for the town of Fairfield Public Works Department for 37 years. An avid gardener, she was known for her love of animals, her family said.

Anderson is survived by a brother, William Chew, of Fairfield, who will turn 100 in February.

Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Spear-Miller Funeral Home in Fairfield, with a service from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Burial will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, 710 Russell Road, Newington, CT 06111.
