Service Set For Westport's Vincent Aitoro, 88, Ex-Owner Of Appliance Store

NORWALK, Conn. — Services have been set for Vincent Aitoro, owner of Aitoro Appliance Co. until his retirement. The longtime Westport resident died on Dec. 10. He was 88.

Born in Norwalk, he was the son of Anthony and Anna Signore Aitoro.

Aitoro was a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Westport Y’s Men’s Club and a past member of the Silvermine Golf Club, Longshore Country Club and Shore and County Club.

Aitoro Appliance was started by his father in 1948 and moved to its current location on Westport Avenue in 1963 and expanded over the years. The store is now run by the family's next generation.

“He was a man of great integrity. His family meant everything to him. He was a caring man who enjoyed helping others,” his obituary said.

Aitoro is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Bette" Smith-Bourguignon Aitoro of Westport; by a daughter and two sons: Jane Wadanoli and her husband David of Punta Gorda, Fla., and their children Liza Ferris and her husband Jason and great-granddaughter Tegan Ferris; Joseph Wadanoli and his wife Charlene; Vincent J. Aitoro and his wife Regina of Norwalk, and their children Eric Aitoro and his wife Jessica, and Marc, and as well as two great-grandchildren Jack and Ava; Tony Aitoro and his wife Liz of Norwalk, and their children: Caroline, A.J. and Michael; and a sister-in-law Phyllis Aitoro Carroll and husband John. He was predeceased by two brothers, Carmine and Rudy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 203 East Ave, Norwalk, with burial to follow at St. John Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
