Services Set For Robert Sullivan, 54, Bridgeport Journalist, Author

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Robert M. "Rob" "Sully" Sullivan, a longtime chronicler of the news in Bridgeport and the author of a book on the city's politics, died June 10. He was 54.

Sullivan was a graduate of Fairfield University. He worked as a journalist for many years, including at Daily Voice, and served as the editor of the Bridgeport New and more recently ran the online Bridgeport Banner.

His book "Political Corruption in Bridgeport: Scandal in the Park City" was published in 2014. The book spanned the history of the city's mayors from P.T. Barnum to Bill Finch, including the first administration of Joe Ganim.

He loved politics and was an avid fan of all Boston sports teams. Above all, he was a man of great faith and was a devout Catholic.

He was born in Worcester, Mass., son of the late John and Marilyn Sullivan. He is survived by two sisters, June Eressy and husband Michael and Nancy Buniowski, both of Worcester; five nieces, two nephews; and his friends Geri and John Whitlock of Fairfield. 

He was predeceased by a brother, Jack Sullivan; and his brother-in-law Steven Buniowski.

Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral Mass on Friday, June 16, at 11 a.m. at Saint Mary's Church, 640 Main St., Shrewsbury, Mass. Burial will be private at a later date.
