Shirley Y. Banks, 87, Former Fairfield Resident

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - Shirley Virginia Yates Banks of Bridgeport and formerly of Fairfield died Dec. 13. She was 87.

Banks was born in Bridgeport, to Thomas and Anna Yates. She graduated from Bassick High School and Butler Business School and worked as a secretary at General Electric before starting her family.

Banks is survived by her daughter, Janet Banks-Mott (Peter); sons, Donald Kenneth Banks (Bonnie) and Robert Banks (Mary); six grandchildren; siblings, Gertrude Ryan, William Yates and Nancy Armour; brother-in-law, Stuart Henley; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; and husband, Donald L. Banks, Jr.

Calling hours are Friday, Dec. 20 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Spear-Miller Funeral Home in Fairfield. Interment will be private.
