Sylvia Irene Washton, 92, Longtime Fairfield Resident

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Sylvia Irene Washton, a longtime Fairfield and Bridgeport resident, died Tuesday, Sept. 9. She was 92.

Washton was born in New York City, to Esther and Max Salitsky. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Hunter College in 1940 and completed a master's degree in social work at Yeshiva University. A longtime resident of Fairfield and Bridgeport, she also resided in Manhassett, N.Y., and Scottsdale, Ariz.

Washton is survived by her daughters, Gale DuBrow of Phoenix, Ruth Washton-Brown (Robert Brown) of Whidbey Island, Wash., Laura Orr (Dudley) of Fairfield; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents; and husband, Nathan S. Washton.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at Congregation B'nai Israel, 2710 Park Ave., Bridgeport, with interment following at Mount Ararat Cemetery in Farmingdale, N.Y.
