SHELTON, Conn. - Victoria “Vicki” Mills, formerly of Fairfield, died Friday, April 26. She was 95.
Mills was born March 28, 1918, in Ossining, N.Y., daughter of Paul and Louisa D’Amico Vita. She left Ossining for Manhattan to pursue a singing career. Her husband was also in show business. After the loss of her husband, she left New York for Bridgeport, where she continued her singing career with many of the area’s famous big bands. Later, she was employed as a buyer at Kay’s Department Store and became a Union steward at the former Gimbels Department Store, both in Bridgeport, until her retirement.
Mills is survived by a son, Jeffrey E. Mills and his companion, Nancy Patterson of Stamford; and two grandsons. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Edward; a brother, Anthony Vita; and sisters, Claudette Goff, Amelia Hayes, Rosemary Vita and Josephine Ferguson.
There will be no visiting hours. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, May 1 at 10:30 a.m. directly at St. Joseph’s Church, 50 Fairmont Place in Shelton. At 2:00 pm, a graveside inurnment of her remains will be held in the family plot in St. Augustine’s Cemetery, Hawkes Ave., Ossining, New York.
Contributions in Mills’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
