TRUMBULL, Conn. - Dr. Vincent M. Murphy Sr. of Trumbull died Sunday, June 29. He was 90.
Murphy was born Aug. 24, 1923, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He served in World War II, then graduated from Columbia University in 1950 with a degree in psychology. He completed graduate studies at Fordham University, earning his doctorate in 1963.
He established the Guidance Department at Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y., and was asked to join the faculty of Fairfield University in 1960. He spent 30 years at Fairfield, serving the majority of this time as associate dean in the School of Arts and Sciences.
He served on the Trumbull Board of Education for over seven years. He was one of the first of four Eucharistic ministers at Saint Catherine of Sienna Parish.
He received a Fairfield University Jubilee Medal in 1992 for his service to the school.
Murphy is survived by his wife, Dorothy Duffy Murphy; children, Anne Marie Clingenpeel (Tom) of Midlothian, Va., Vincent Jr. (Lisa) of St. Augustine, Fla., James of New York, N.Y., and Joan Bowie of Attleboro, Mass.; eight grandchildren; sister, Gert of Montauk, N.Y.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are Wednesday, July 2, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Road, Trumbull. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 3, at Saint Catherine of Siena Church, 200 Shelton Road, Trumbull, with Interment in Nichols Village Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Fairfield University Student Text Book Fund.
