FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Waldo Nathan Sweet, Jr., a longtime resident of Fairfield, died Aug. 14. He was 81.
Sweet was born in New Haven; son of Waldo Nathan Sweet and Margaret Tierney Sweet Bilgren. He prepared for college at Warren Harding High School, Bridgeport, and graduated from Williston Academy in Easthampton, Mass. He graduated from Yale University in 1954 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies. While at Yale he belonged to Chi Phi (Calhoun College). Upon graduation Wally served in the United States Army. Prior to his retirement in 1982, he was president of Wood's Lightning Protection, Shelton. He was a member of the Brooklawn Country Club for more than 40 years.
Sweet is survived by his children, Philip (Djanira) Sweet of Norwalk, David (Jamie) Sweet of Bridgeport, Helen Cooke of Lowell, Mass., Bryant Sweet of Fairfield, and Jane Sweet of Easton; sister, Jane Sweet Stagg of Stratford; two grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Alice Langmuir Sweet; and son, Waldo Nathan Sweet, III.
Calling hours are Monday, Aug. 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Redgate - Hennessy Funeral Home, Main St., and Gorham Place, Trumbull. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m., meeting directly in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road, Fairfield, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
