Walter H. Beck Sr., 93, Longtime Fairfield Resident

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Longtime Fairfield resident Walter H. Beck Sr., died Sunday, May 8. He was 93.

A native of Bridgeport, Beck was a Fairfield resident for the past 59 years. 

He was an accomplished steamfitter for more than 62 years and a member of Local #486. 

A master of his trade, his employment brought him to many major construction sites, including General Electric in Fairfield, St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport and the Millstone Nuclear Power Plant in New London. 

Beck also served in the U.S. Army as a corporal in World War II.

Beck is survived by his two sons and their wives, Walter and Sharron Beck and Philip and Bonnie Beck; his daughter, Karen Beck-Huminski and her companion, Greg Clark; his “other son,” Gerald Settani and his wife, Diane; six grandchildren, Mary Huminski, Matthew and Michael Beck, Lauren Beck, Brian Beck and his wife, Renee and Kirsten Beck-Butkovsky and her husband, Michael; and nine great-grandchildren, Brook, Luke, Cole and Brock Butkovsky and Cayden, Alaina, Andrew, Ava and Allie Beck. He also is survived by his nephew, Mel Beck and his family; his sister-in-law, Marion Demas; and other extended family. 

Beck was predeceased by his wife, Mary; and his brother, William. 

Calling hours will take place from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Shaughnessy Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road, Fairfield with a Triagion Service at 5 p.m. 

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 4070 Park Ave., Bridgeport. 

Interment to follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery with full military honors.
