SOUTHPORT, Conn. -- Southport resident William H. Conboy died Monday, Jan. 25. He was 95.
A U.S. Navy veteran who served in the Pacific during World War II, Conboy belonged to the Disabled Veterans. He was employed by the U.S. Post Office as a letter carrier for 35 years and was a member of NALC BR32.
Conboy later worked at Lindblad Travel in Westport. He and his wife traveled extensively worldwide. He was an avid Red Sox fan and he loved playing golf. He was a communicant of Saint Thomas Aquinas Church.
He is survived by his daughters, Patricia Ondek of Tenants Harbor, Maine, Ginger and her husband William Schappart of Brookfield and his care-giver daughter Nancy Bartovic of Southport; grandchildren Aaron Ondek, Geoffrey, David and Amanda Cooke, Melissa and Perry Bartovic; great-grandchildren Alex Rae and Makenna Cooke and Joshua and Colin Cooke; and many cousins, including Marion Murray and Eleanor Read.
Conboy was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Elsie Havanich Conboy; parents Harold and Frances Conboy; and brothers Hector Conboy and Raymond Ballard.
Visiting hours will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27 at the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, Fairfield Center. Funeral services will be at 9:45 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 28 at the funeral home and 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Church in Fairfield. Interment will follow with full military honors at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield.
