FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Winifred P. Schumaker, a longtime Fairfield resident, died Sept. 17 at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport. She was 94.
Born in Bridgeport, she was a Fairfield resident for more than 60 years. During World War II, Schumaker worked as an ammunition inspector at Remington Arms, where she met and married Joseph P. Schumaker. She was a longtime volunteer in the Fairfield school system.
Schumaker is survived by a daughter, Beatrice Wedemeyer of North Carolina; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sons, Thomas J. Schumaker and Edward Schumaker.
A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's of Stratford Cemetery in Stratford.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent's Swim Across the Sound. Edmund Dougiello Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
