To the Editor:

It is, of course, election season, and, unavoidably, time for campaign signs to adorn our neighbors' lawns proclaiming their support for their favored candidates.

Some of these signs, as expected, are in support of Chris Tymniak and Laurie McArdle, candidates for first selectman and selectman, respectively. But I have noticed something odd, and slightly disconcerting. Underneath their names, the subtitle reads, "for First & Second Selectman."

In fact, Fairfield is governed by a Board of Selectmen, consisting of one "First Selectman" and two "Selectmen." There is no Second Selectman and there is no Third Selectman.

Setting aside for a moment whatever policy positions Ms. McArdle may have, do we really want someone leading us who can't even be bothered to learn the name of the office she is seeking?
