Letter to the Editor responded to DTC Chairman's letter:
I was saddened to read the distortion of facts other day a recent letter by DTC Chairman Ellery
Plotkin. Yes, there were cuts. But these were cuts to the 6.4% increase, responsible members of the RTM, mostly Republican, trimmed the unsustainable tax increase, to just over 2% which was still greater than inflation and much more than the average Fairfield citizen saw as an increase in their pay check.
As a responsible RTM member, I will continue to support our schools, but not some of the inefficiencies in our Central Offices and other areas of town. We spend a lower percentage of our educational tax dollars “in the classroom” and more in overhead than surrounding communities.
I supported the senior tax relief bipartisan effort. But even with this program, the rate of our tax increases have far exceeded the cost of living adjustments for our seniors and any salary increase for most of us still in the work force. The number of For Sale signs in my neighborhood, and throughout town is evidence that Fairfield is becoming unaffordable and overtaxed.
On Nov. 5, please come out to the polls, and support the Republicans. Vote to keep Fairfield affordable. Vote to sustain our way of life and not to be taxed out of town.
