To the editorial:
On Nov. 4, we will have the opportunity to vote on a proposal to amend the state Constitution.
This proposal would allow early voting and more importantly give the Connecticut General Assembly the power to control and change the rules that guide voting in our state.
This is a bad idea because it will make the voting process more political and too easy to change at the whim of whatever political party happens to be in charge. Here in Connecticut, the Democrats are currently in control of all state offices and have had complete control of the legislative branch of the state government for over 20 years.
I'm concerned that this amendment will increase the potential for voter fraud. We have to show ID to buy a beer, get on a plane or buy Sudafed for a cold. So, how is it suppressing the right to vote if we must show ID in order to cast a ballot?
The right to vote is a very special privilege and a big responsibility that every American should cherish and take very seriously. Any changes should be decided only by the voters. We should not give this power to elected officials who will make decisions based on political objectives. Please join me in voting NO to the amendment on Nov. 4 and help to preserve the integrity of our votes going forward. Kathryn Burshtein
