To the Editor:

With an important townwide election taking place Nov. 3, I write to express my support for Mike Tetreau for First Selectman.

In the past four years as First Selectman, Tetreau has demonstrated strong leadership, sound judgment and financial acumen as he has dealt with the critical challenges facing the town of Fairfield. He worked diligently to develop a budget for 2016 with the lowest tax increase in years while restoring the AAA bond rating for the town, funding long-term pensions and adding to the surplus fund.

He worked effectively with the emergency management team and the town agencies in planning, employing CodeRed to improve communications and dealing with the problems confronting the town during and immediately after hurricanes Irene and Sandy, winter storm Nemo and the Metro-North train derailment.

He restored money for the public libraries and Pequot Library, improved services and aid for the senior center, as membership increased from 400 to 2,000 and led the effort to clean up Mill River and the development of the former Exide Battery property.

Tetreau was educated in the Fairfield schools and previously served on the Planning and Zoning Commission, the RTM and the Board of Finance. He understands the unique small-city, large-town culture and the need to maintain the charm and character that makes Fairfield such a desirable place to live.

I believe Mike Tetreau is the right choice for First Selectman and will vote for him Nov. 3.
