Fairfield Letter: Vote To Expand Voting Rights In Connecticut

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield Daily Voice accepts signed letters to the editor. Please send letters to fairfield@dailyvoice.com

To the editor:

I’m sure most of us could think of a plethora of reasons why one would want to vote early.

We have a very sizable commuter population in our town, and often those folks who commute to the city are gone most of election day, if not the whole day.

Why not afford them the opportunity to vote at a more convenient time? What about other individuals who  work all day long in state? Should they not have access to easy, convenient voting?

The answer, according to the votes of State Reps. Brenda Kupchick and Tony Hwang, appears to be "no;" those voters don’t deserve the chance to vote early.

Voting is a sacred civic responsibility, and the most fundamental right that we enjoy as Americans. Why not expand that right, make it easier and more convenient for our residents to exercise?

I encourage State Rep. Brenda Kupchick, as well as State Rep. Tony Hwang, to explain to their constituents why expanding voting possibilities is not a priority for them.

And for the rest of my fellow Fairfielders, I encourage you to vote for the Constitutional amendment that would expand voting options for all Nutmeggers.
