To the editor:

Democrat Mike Tetreau’s First Selectman campaign is distributing information that misleads voters into thinking he actually cut taxes each of the last four years.

The facade of championing conservative ideals comes in real handy when voters make their way to the polls in November. Under Tetreau’s current term, taxes rose by roughly 10 percent and the budget grew by about $18 million.

It was the Republican Board of Finance and the RTM who repeatedly have stepped up each year and took difficult, cost-reducing measures and brought Tetreau’s proposed increases to more affordable levels.

In his 2014 budget for example, Mike Tetreau proposed an exorbitant 6.4 percent tax increase that his mailers conveniently omitted. Either the Democratic leadership is purposely propagating falsehood or they are incapable of recollecting what exactly transpired in past budget cycles.

Thankfully, the combined efforts of the Republican Board of Finance and RTM successfully reduced the boards recklessness by more than 2 percent.

But let’s not waste too much time on information that can be crosschecked in RTM minutes and FairTV archives.

Let’s talk about Ansonia. The facts frighten Tetreau. Chris Tymniak worked with Ansonia’s mayor, David Cassetti, to lower the mill rate 1.7 over 2 consecutive years, increase the BOE budget by 6.5 percent and safeguard the grand list by keeping companies like Farrell in Ansonia rather than forcing them to consider alternative towns or states.

We need a First Selectman confident enough in his facts that doesn’t need to resort to ad hominem defamation.

Ray Neuberger, RTM District 6.
