Letter: Fairfield Small Businessman Backs Coyner

As a small business owner in Connecticut, I am often concerned with the ability to gain momentum in an economy that tends to favor bigger business. What possibly concerns me more is who do we, the small business sector, have to represent this concern at the government level? Kevin Coyner has so many attributes that make him an excellent candidate for Connecticut state representative for the 132nd district. I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know Kevin over the last year and have been impressed by his acumen of relevant experiences as well as his drive to help our small business community.

Kevin’s experiences in the small business arena, coupled with his experiences in both finance and government, make him a very logical choice as a representative. The fact that he is able to understand the financial, emotional, and even physical demands of owning a business in Connecticut, at the same time as balancing family life, gives me confidence that he knows where I’m coming from with my concerns.

I’ve had many friends and colleagues that have worked for larger corporations and find that they have no idea about all the “little” things that it takes to run the day to day operations. Kevin not only understands them, but has great ideas about improving them to make life better for all of us. The best part about it is that his experiences in the U.S. Senate, the Executive Board of the Firefighter’s Union, and the State of Alaska’s Department of Economic Development give him a great ability to communicate these small business concerns to our government.

I agree with Kevin’s desire to promote small business alongside big business. The health of our state depends on having a blend of the two in order for the residents to prosper. Knowing that part of his mission is to bring more equality among the business types gives me a sense that he “gets it.”

I would have certainly voted for Kevin given his broad range of accomplishments and experiences, but it is his understanding of the needs of the small business community that make me a very enthusiastic supporter.
