To the editor,
This is a call to parents and educators to come out and vote regardless of your political preferences.
I am writing to ask all voters of good will to vote for the Democrat candidates for Representative Town Meeting on Nov. 5. There is an immediate need to return balanced, responsible leadership to our legislative body.
Currently, the Republicans hold a small majority on the RTM. They have chosen to wield their power in ways that have harmed our town. Last budget year, they blindly slashed $500,000 out of the education budget without regard to education needs, and without regard to cuts that had already been made by the Boards of Selectmen and Finance. Educational programs have been compromised and cut at our schools, as a result. The current RTM is putting our schools on the path of a second-rate program.
I am in favor of holding the Board of Education accountable for their funding requests, and finding ways to save and provide cut-backs where needed. But mindless hatchet-cutting for no particular reason, other than that they can, is not balanced. It is not responsible. It is not leadership. Keep taxes affordable. SAVE our property values. SAVE OUR SCHOOLS. Vote for DEMOCRATS for RTM Nov. 5.
