Letter to the Editor:
State Rep. Brenda Kupchick is an independent voice and understands what is needed to move Connecticut forward.
Barron's magazine released its list of the best- and worst-run states in the nation. According to Barron's, Connecticut is ranked 50th. Connecticut is also in the worst financial shape of all 50 states, according to a corresponding report cited by Barron's. One-party rule has contributed to this financial mess we’re all stuck in. By supporting Brenda, we're supporting a responsible, balanced legislature.
Republicans like myself are not surprised. We have watched Gov. Malloy and his Democratic majority drive us into this financial wasteland. Our state treasurer, another Democrat, has not answered questions about the state's cash flow for over a year.
Fiscally concerned Republicans, like Brenda Kupchick, know that borrowing money to pay operating costs like salaries and the Capitol's electric bill is just plain irresponsible! Gov. Malloy and the Democrats' solution to everything is to tax and spend more of our money.
Small wonder Barron's has identified Connecticut as the "worst-run state.”
I like having someone to represent me in Hartford who runs a small business, and gets it. We can't "rob Peter to pay Paul.” We don't need another rubber stamp for Malloy's irresponsible budgeting and policies. I urge you to vote for someone who understands how to cut spending responsibly and is a common-sense voice for Fairfield.
We can build our way back to a responsible government with good people like Brenda Kupchick.
Sincerely,
John Shaffer
Fairfield, Conn.
