FAIRFIELD, Conn. — The following letter is from Marc Patten, a Representative Town Meeting member from District 7.
As a new member of Fairfield's Representative Town Meeting, I want to congratulate all of our newly elected officials, both Republicans and Democrats. During the election process I campaigned on a platform of "our town comes first." After our inaugural RTM meeting on Monday night I couldn't be more pleased at how smoothly things went, and how great we all got along.
Both Parties are willing to work together, make compromises and once again put our town first over politics. We need to continue to do this at every turn and I truly believe this group will succeed. There is a lot of work to do and hard decisions to make in the next year, from building maintenance that has been put off to rising student enrollment, senior tax relief that needs enhancing, urban and commercial blight that needs addressing and union contracts to be reviewed. Yes, the economy is still not great, but we've survived, and we will thrive.
Hopefully, by working together we can find the money to fix the things that need fixing without burdening our taxpayers excessively so that we can all live together as neighbors in this great town and enjoy all that it has to offer for many years to come.
