On Nov. 5, we will be supporting and voting for Marc Patten in the race for Board of Education. Marc will be a huge asset to the Board and will work with other board members, with other town bodies, and with the community to ensure that the quality of our children's education remains high without impacting our taxes.
Marc has volunteered at his children's school, serving on the PTA Executive board at North Stratfield for 6 years. Elected to the RTM in 2011, and a member of the RTMs Education subcommittee, Marc has learned about the intracacies of how the Board of Education works and will be able to hit the ground running as a BOE member. He will bring to the table a parent's perspective and insight, as well as the knowledge that can only come by attending Board meetings and knowing the processes that govern the Board. Marc will be cognizant of the concerns surrounding the BOE budget, but he won't ignore the fact that as a Board of Education member, the primary focus should always be on curriculum and students.
Through his work on the Senior and Disabled Tax Relief subcommittee of the RTM, Marc also understands that for those without kids in public school, it can be difficult to appreciate the high costs of education, especially when taxes continue to rise. He will continue to reach out to the community at large and urge the BOE to become more transparent and open in their dealings with other town bodies, and our residents.
We urge you to support Marc Patten for the Fairfield Board of Education - he will work to keep our schools and our community strong.
