On Feb. 20, the Danbury Police Department received a complaint from a former Danbury High School teacher, who said she had been made aware of an active Twitter Account using her photograph and name, portraying the account as hers.
"The Twitter account was portraying the teacher in a defamatory manner," police said in a statement.
The Danbury Police Department Detective Bureau investigated, issuing numerous court-ordered search warrants and conducing many interviews.
The investigation found that two former Danbury High School students, who were seniors at the time of the incident, were responsible, police said.
Police applied for and were granted arrest warrants for both.
On Wednesday, July 29, Nickolas Brito, 18, of Danbury, turned himself in to the Danbury Police Department. He was charged with conspiracy to commit criminal impersonation and second-degree conspiracy to commit harassment. Brito was released on a written promise to appear in court on Aug. 18.
On the same day, Mikayla Ramos, 18, of Danbury, turned herself in to the Danbury Police Department. She was charged with conspiracy to commit criminal impersonation, second-degree conspiracy to commit harassment and false statement. Ramos was released on a written promise to appear in court on Aug. 18.
