$2,400 In Cigarettes Taken In Fairfield Burglary

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A burglar smashed the glass front door of a Black Rock Turnpike gas station early Friday, causing $1,000 in damage, before making off with $2,400 in cigarettes, Fairfield police say.

The break-in occurred at the Shell station on Black Rock Turnpike at about 5 a.m.  Fairfield Police got a call from a security company reporting the alarm had been triggered. An employee opening for the day told officers he found the front door shattered but no suspects in the area.

Police believe the suspect used a 15-pound rock to break through the glass. He then emptied a garbage can and filled it with 30 cartons of cigarettes.

Based on surveillance footage, police believe the suspect is a bald Hispanic or light-skinned black male. He was wearing jeans and a hooded sweatshirt.

Anyone with information on the incident or the suspect should contact the Fairfield Police Detective Bureau at 203-254-4840.
