FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Three people were taken to the hospital Sunday afternoon after the car they were driving in hit a curb and a utility pole in Fairfield.

Police responded to the crash on Mountain Laurel Road at 3:46 p.m. An investigation revealed that the car, driven by a 18-year-old Fairfield resident, was traveling west on Mountain Laurel Road when the driver lost control and it began to slide across the eastbound lane of travel, police said. It hit a curb, then collided with a United Illuminating utility pole in front of 850 Mountain Laurel Road, where it came to a rest.

Two 18-year-old passengers were also in the car at the time of the accident, and all three were taken to St. Vincent's Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash is currently under investigation by the Fairfield Police Crash Reconstruction Unit.
