The one-car accident took place on Route 15 southbound near Exit 41 at about 11 a.m., slowing traffic as police closed down the right lane.

Robert G. Bearden, 76, of Florham Park, was pronounced dead at Norwalk Hospital, the Connecticut Post said. He was the only occupant of the 2008 Toyota Camry, which struck a large tree and rolled over, the Post said.

It was the second fatal accident in the past month on that stretch of the Merritt Parkway. On Dec. 21, Lisa C. Brown, 51, of Stamford died when her car left the parkway, hit a tree, and rolled over in a 10 p.m. crash.
