FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Eight Greenfield Hill businesses were hit by burglary attempts early Friday morning, according to Fairfield Police.
The break-in attempts occurred between police patrols at 2 and 4 a.m., police believe. All eight took place at or near the business district at the intersection of Bronson Road and Hillside Drive.
The would-be burglars were not able to get into three of the businesses – Bonda Restaurant, Country Mouse and Lyons & Lyons Accounting – but they did break windows, causing an estimated $600 in damage.
At Greenfield Hill Cleaners and Tailors, the burglars got inside, but nothing was reported missing. Greenfield Hill Service Center also reported a break-in, and only item was stolen, a credit card stamper and receipts.
At Greenfield Hill Liquor Shop, the intruders gained entrance but left the store’s merchandise untouched. A small safe was found opened, but police were not sure if anything was taken.
There were signs that Greenfield Hill Dog Grooming was broken into, but police had not been able to contact the business’s owners to find out if anything was missing as of Friday morning.
Just south of the other incidents, Greenfield Hill Garden Center reported that its cash register was taken. The amount of money inside was not known.
A burglary was reported in a different section of Fairfield Thursday night. The owner of Vazzy’s 19th Hole restaurant at Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course reported that its cash register with about $50 was taken.
Fairfield Police recovered evidence from some of the crime scenes. The break-ins are still under investigation.
