Norwalk police and the state Liquor Control Division went to bars in the area of Main Street and Washington Street on Friday evening to make compliance checks. One stop was at Tucker’s Café, where Leigha Rybnick, 40, of Woodacre Road was working, according to the police report.
Officers asked Rybnick for her identification, and when she reached for her purse she accidentally knocked it over, police said. An unmarked prescription pill bottle fell out, which contained oxycontin, a narcotic painkiller, according to the report. She was arrested at the scene on a charge of failure to keep prescription drugs in a proper container, police said.
During her arrest, police also found cocaine in Rybnick's possession, some of it wrapped in paper folds for distribution, police said. Officers also searched the bar and found a plastic container magnetically attached to the bar, which contained more packages of cocaine, according to the police report. In total, about 12 grams of cocaine was seized, police said.
“It appears Ms. Rybnick was using her job as a bartender to conduct drug transactions,” Lt. James Walsh of Norwalk’s Special Services Division said Monday.
Rubnick was also charged with possession and sale of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, and added charges of being within 1,500 feet of a school or public housing complex. Her bond was set at $50,000, and she is due in court on Dec. 26.
During the compliance check at the same bar, officers also saw Aveyourn Parker, 35, of Disesa Court throw a plastic bag on the floor, according to the police report. The bag contained powder cocaine, police said. Police also found more cocaine concealed in his underwear during Parker’s arrest, Walsh said Monday.
Parker was charged with possession and sale of narcotics, with added charges of being within 1,500 feet of a school. He was held on $50,000 bond and is also due in court Dec. 26.
