First responders from Milford, West Haven and Stratford as well as the Coast Guard responded just after 6 p.m. to Silver Sands State Park after a woman called 911 to report that her husband had fallen overboard, NBC Connecticut said.
The Coast Guard found him about 55 minutes later in the cold water, WTNH-TV said. The man, identified as 43-year-old Richard Melucci of New York, was taken him to Milford Hospital but died, WTNH said.
His wife was taken to Milford Hospital for evaluation, NBC Connecticut said.
