Bridgeport Firefighters Battle Giant Blaze At Former Rubber Factory

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Bridgeport firefighters are battling a blaze at the former AIG Rubbery factory on Stratford Avenue Wednesday afternoon.

Stratford Avenue was closed while the Bridgeport Fire Department responded to the scene. Residents are asked to stay clear of the area.

According to NBC Connecticut, the heavy smoke from the fire could be seen from I-95. The building is vacant and firefighters are not entering, NBC Connecticut reported.

Multiple ladder trucks, as well as a fire boat, were used to get the fire under control by 4:45 p.m. according to NBC Connecticut. There have been multiple fires in the building since it was abandoned in 2014, NBC Connecticut reported.
