Richard Byron, of Shell Street, was stopped by police Tuesday outside 170 Post Road as a possible suspect in a robbery at Super Stop & Shop on Kings Highway Cutoff, police said.

According to police, Byron was attempting to wash the windows of cars passing by when officers spotted him.

When asked about the robbery, Byron gave a false name, but officers were able to identify him through a Department of Correction photo, police said.

After gaining a positive identification, officers determined there two warrants for Byron's rearrest out of Fairfield, police said, most likely in connection with infractions that went unpaid.

When asked why he gave a fake name, Byron responded it had been out of habit, police said.

Byron was charged with interfering with an officer and held on $100 bond. He is due in court on Jan. 27.
